flairbox wagon end gate?

Did these wagons just have T&G boards to close the end, or were the end gates more sophisticated, like on the later wooden barge wagons with the little grain door? Anybody have any pics they can share?

I want to build the right kind of end gate for this wagon.

Where in northeast Iowa are you? I am in northeast Iowa also. Here is a rear picture of the wooden flare box I bought this spring. The endgate is built just like the balance of the wagon with tongue and groove and than just sits in the slotted spot for it. The "grain door" is pulled up by the metal handles that you can see in the picture. This grain door is on the outside of the endgate and slides up and down in a wooden track. I can take some more indepth pictures for you if you like the next time I get out to the farm. I almost bought a wooden flare box without an endgate but couldn't find any of the hardware for it or find one to copy off of.

I am on the line of Fayette and Bremer county. Live in Sumner, but the farm is north of town in Fayette.

Don't know who made the wooden box for sure. No name or marks on it. Was on a Wards running gear and that is about all I know about it. Painted it JD green and mounted it on my 943 running gear.
