I doubt if a rice shortage is at hand. The biggest rice states are Arkansas, California and Texas. Regardless of all the crap you hear about free trade, Japan currently has a 775% tariff on American rice to protect their very inefficient rice farmers. American farmers can grow higher quality rice, and put it on the docks in Japan for 20% of the cost to grow it there, but Japan sets up a tariffs, hurdles and barriers. Same is true of Korea. Did you see the Korean farmers protesting free trade at the last meeting of the world trade organization? The only thing in jeaprody is the jobs of the American and Canadian auto workers as the Japaneese and Koreans dump their products on us with no fair trade rules. Maybe we can trade rice to China for t-shirts and knock-off CD's. By the way, Japan has been closed to US beef imports because we had 2 cases of Mad cow disease in the USA in our millions of cows...Japan had 22 cases of Mad cow disease in a herd of beef cows so small they know each cow by name. I think our rice supply is safe, the USA is the largest producer of rice in the world. PS: I have celiac disease too. Thank goodness for rice and corn.
