baler capacity?

This is probably a real dumb question, but I'll asl it anyway. Is there much difference in the capacity (ie bales per hour) of different small square balers?

If the bale size is the same, and the pto speed is the same, then really it is the number of strokes per bale it can handle. I have a nh 268, and for me 8 strokes per bale is really pushing it - 12 is more comfortable. Are other balers able to reduce this number without busting shear bolts?

Plunger speed is the main capacity limiter but the pickup can also be a limiting factor and it also depends what your doing with the bales. We have a 100 stroke/minute baler and when loading bales on racks getting the bales stacked fast enough is usually our limiting factor. Yesterday we had three people on the racks and were trying to beat a rain so we were running 12-15 strokes per bale but it would keep three people on the rake busy most of the time to keep up.

I would say the operator has everything to do with it, not the baler. You could have two identical balers set the same side by side. The one going a little faster is going to have a heavier bale and possibly breaking pins because of it.

Paul's right, for example I have a 570 NH it puts out a beautyful bale every 20 seconds

Newer balers increase the strokes per minute to increase capacity.

I agree, but its not always newer vs. older. Take for instance the 328, 338 and 348 Deere balers currently made today. The 348 has a faster stroke per minute than the 328 increasing its capacity.
