Loader doesn't work after fluid change

I have a Mid-western loader on my TO-30. It had a leak in the hydraulics contols to the loader, so I drained the fluid, repaired the lead (gasket was bad), and refilled it, and now the loader doesn't work. I used hydraulic/transmission fluid from Tractor Supply Company. I posted here asking what to use and was told Hytran, which TSC said was the hyd/tran fluid they sold me. The fluid I drained was sort of a milky off-white color; what I bought looks more like motor oil in color and texture. Am I using the wrong fluid? If so, what is the correct fluid? Is there something else that might be wrong? There is some fixture that I believe is supposed to be a relief valve off of the side of the loader. It does not seal-off the fitting it screws into, so there is no "closed system," but this is the way it was when I bought it and the loader did work. Does anyone know what this part really is supposed to be, and where to purchase one?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Did you change filter if you didn't I would sugest you do also as you have water in hyd fluid
be sure to prime filter " fill with Hyd fluid " before installing , also you might have to bleed lines to cyl " loosen lines while putting presure on then " .

As the others say, milky oil means it has water in it. Good you changed.

Likely lost prime on your pump, need to bleed the air bubbles out so it starts pumping oil.

Do you think the system needs bleeding?

the old fluid was contaminated with water...thats why it looks different...sounds like you lost prime to your hyd pump...have you checked for flow???

I'm new to all of this. Going with suggestions of neighbor who, of course, is on vacation this week. I don't know how to prime the pump, or bleed it, or check for flow. Any help or suggestions are really, really appreciated.

Thank you all.

I'm not sure if you are using the tractor hyd, or if it has a seperate (front, pto, fan belt) pump to run the loader, or what. So, going to be hard to explian without more knowledge.

If you are using the regular tractor hydraulics to run the loader, has everything hyd quite working (3 point, rear remote, etc.) or is only the loader not working, other things do?

It is a separate pump on the front of the tractor. It is a Vicker Vane Pump, but can't make out model. I removed the filter and brought it to my local tractor retailer and they've never seen anything like it. It is a cloth filter.

I checked my Ferguson manual and it makes no reference to a pump on the front, so I'm thinking the pump is part of the Mid Western loader, and not the tractor.

Anyway, with the filter removed I used my air compressor to check for clear lines and it appears all is clear.

Assuming I'm going to have to use the existing filter, at least for now, what would I do at this point? Start replacing the hydro fluid until I see it coming out at the pump filter, or put the filter back in and then start filling? What primes the pump?

Thank you again.

my best advice would be for you to buy a shop manual for your particular tractor...TSC probably has them if youre in a hurry or this site has them and theyre all over ebay.
good luck
