I have a twine fed nh276 baler, have done a few repairs lately and have been cycling the machine maunually to check bearing operation etc.

I noticed that when the tying cycle is virtually complete and the cog is coming off the static cog quite a large knock/bang occurs( not sure if its the twine disc cog or the bill hook cog) - is this quite normal?

the knock or clack comes when the cogs are coming off the rotating plate, the needles are still in the knotter group and its just before they return. Its almost as if the cog flat part is reseating on the flat part of the rotators--any further view Rexalot .
Its not related to plunger as that is in good time and i am watching /listening to this happen from the rear so i can see plunger etc.

Your sure this is coming from the knotter group?

There should be no "knocking". The only noise you should get is when the needles return home. I liken that to more of a "click".

The last time I had a knock about the time the knotters tripped I found my plunger stop out of adjustment.

its definitely the cog teeth on the twine discs rubbing against the cog teeth that turn them -just before the end of the cog turning cycle at the second to the last tooth on the cog it makes the noise just as if the cog tooth is jumping slightly against the other-is this an alignment issued- there doesnt appear to be any damage and the knotters work fine -perhaps i am being over sensitive but would welcome any further thoughts.

from memory there are shims to adjust the clearence between the gears and the large pan gear, too tight and the pan gears can break.
