Do they make any replacement for the rivets that hold on the knives on the sickle bar for my 450 NH mower? I've heard of small bolts, but do they work good, and anybody know the part number to purchase them??? How is the easiest way to remove the old rivets?

Yep, them little bolts are the cats meow. Any farm supply store should have them, that's where I get mine. I always carry a punch, chisel, hammer, and ratchet with 7/16 socket and about 4 minutes you can change a ledger plate and you're back in business. Best invention since a pocket on a shirt. Harley

well i went ahead and bought me the rivets from new holland, how is the easiest way to flatten them out, i put it through the hole, laid it on the vise and had to hit it about 30 times to get it flattened out and the knife tight

You need a bigger hammer. Two or three times should be all you need. I remember using the rivets, and they are all right but they are a lot harder to work with. Espicially when you are out in the field. You have to carry a piece of steel for the bottom of the rivet to sit on, Being down in the hay with the ( down here anyway) ticks and chiggers, and beating around on uneven ground with that stuff, I just don't think you can beat the bolts. You don't even have to lower the bar to work on it. Standing up beside it, and get-er-done. Harley

I think they are 1/4 inch by about 3/4 inch long. They have a carriage head with a screwdriver head and special little serrations right below the head that self-lock into the bar when ya drive them in. the nut is self locking so it don"t come off. They come in packages of about 50 bolts and nuts together.

any tractor supply, atwood, equipment dealer should have them. one drawback is you will have to replace the hold down clamps with ones for bolted sections. will need 2 sizes of bolts. londer ones for the head of the bar. I don't have the part numbers but if you buy the knife sections they should have the bolts also.

Are these bolts workable for any type sicle mower? I just pounded 60 of the things and they are a major PITA. How do you get the bolt heads flat enough to clear the guide clamps? I had to grind mine down almost flush.
