I have discovered recently that my Little Gen #8, two furrow plow is actually a hydraulic lift plow. :( (Versus a trip plow)
I have an 8n. whats it take/ is it worth trying to use this way with the N or better off converting to trip plow?? Looking for some input / opinions on the matter. I know to even use the test port you gotta chain the arms but what else would be involved?? would need a control valve and such too right?? Sounds like $$$

Thanks for input

Can a 3pt lower link bar for a two bottom 14" be bought aftermarket. If so what source? These bars have the pins rotated 180 deg. for adjustment leveling of the bottoms. I want to rebuild a old flip plow and make it just a one way style and will need to make new 3pt mounting. The one I'm thinking of are like the Deeres 415 plow lower link bars. bjr

When the term 'trip' plow is used, it refers to a mechanical setup that allows the plow bottom to trip over an obstruction, and the plow is backed up to reset the trip mechanism. Not as handy as an 'automatic reset' plow, but it beats breaking parts. If your plow has a trip rope to raise and lower the plow, it is a 'wheel lift' or 'ground lift' plow. I can't imagine it being worth it to change from a hydraulic to a ground lift system. The hydraulic will let you raise the plow when stuck, while the ground lift needs forward motion to operate. Regarding the ability of the 8N to hydraulically lift the plow- it's a matter of using a cylinder that matches the tractor hydraulic pressure, and of adequate diameter to provide enough lift. Fatter cylinder will lift slower, but push more.

Yes I discovered recently by looking at another 8n that a cylinder or cylinder's can be operated by tieing into that port. It would problably have the power to lift your plow the only issue I would be concerned about is how well an 8n would handle a trailer plow. I know the Ns are very light on the front and I would be afraid if it rearing up. I want to get me a 3 point 2-14 for my 8n sometime that is the size and type of plow intended for use with the Ns. They must work great as everyone in the country uses them. As far as hooking up a cylinder to that port it should be no problem at all problably just has 1/2" pipe threads and a couple and hyd hose and pipe fittings should be all you would need.

That is a special hard to find fitting and traction would be a major problem, would need tires filled with the heaviest fluid that can be found plus extra wheel weights

So your saying R Wyler that the 8n works BETTER and more designed to use a 3pt 2 bottom plow than a trailer plow!! Make sense since most of the dearbornes are 3pt..... So the trailer plow changes the geometry of it all then huh??

Maybe I need to see if I can "trade" it or keep eyes open for a 3pt...

Again..ive seen people cut em up and make a trailer plow 3pt but really dont want to do that.....

Thanks!!!

The draft control feature on the Ford N-series hitch made operation with mounted equipment more practical than with trailed implements. When the mounted plow hit a tough spot and the load increased, the hitch (and plow) would raise up a bit to allow the tractor to keep moving. With a trailed plow you don't have this and the tractor could bog down. This feature (which is standard equipment on virtually all farm tractors today) is why the little Ford could pull a 2-14 plow as well as larger tractors.

No problem. I would say that an IH plow like you have on hydraulic would be of decent value. And a good 3 point plow like 2-14s should be pretty easy to come by I think they are common all over the country. I would like to get one for mine sometime.
