oil seal rant

have a older brush hog,10 years old,name and dealer long gone.gearbox was leaking oil around lower shaft.take off blades and such.take off lower bearing cap where the seal is located.save enough of seal for numbers.come to find out gearbox is probably japanese,so is seal KOYO brand.we,koyo do not import the seals.nobody has crossover numbers.seal is metric.so am waiting for monday to call HARWAL seems they have metric seals.just a big pain in sss . guess thats the way things are now

I've gotten metric seals from NAPA with no problems. Metric seal numbers are the actual demonsions of the seals so all you need is set of calipers to measure them and thats the number seal you are looking for.

Same seal problem on my Woods M5. I just filled it with grease and a few oz of 90 wt. It makes a nice slurry. Problem solved
