Vermeer 503I baler questions

I just got my self a low hour vermeer 503I round baler. When I say low hour I'm talking less than 2000 bales since new in 1989.

Nowhere in the operator manual does it say to run the baler while ejecting a bale or shut the pto off before ejecting the bale. So when dumping a bale do I run the pto and at what speed if so?

When tieing the bale with hydraulic tie do I run the baler at 540rpm when tieing or should I cut the speed down then tie it off?

In the manual it state's how to adjust the pick-up cam track. My baler is adjusted fully to the aggresive mark. I bale alfalfa/grass where should I adjust the pick-up cam track?

Are you sure it isnt a 505i, guess I never heard of a 503i. Anyway turn off the pto to dump bale, after bale is out start pto up, this will align the belts then lower the gate and go for it. I would say you can tie bale at any speed, just ties it faster. I never seem to bale with full 540 speed, seems to work better.

When the I baler first came out there was a 503, 504 and 505. The 503 didn't last very long.

I didnt know that, say what size bale did that make then a 3 by 5. Never seen one.

Turn the PTO off when dumping a bale. Tie the bale off at 540 rpm. The setting of the cam track depends on how much the teeth are bent. To bale alfalfa and grass should be more toward the unaggresive end if the teeth are good. If the windrows are real large you might need to set it more aggresive. Make sure windrows are 3' wide fpr nice even bales. Less than 3' and you have to weave more that 3' and baler will have trouble.

Not familar with the 503I, But every round baler I have had worked better when I cut the pto off when raising the lid to dump the bale. If a bale did not want to dump out, then I would turn the pto on briefly. Reason for stopping the baler is that there is a short while after the pressure is off the belts they will rub against the bale instead of turning it and roughen the bale.

I run the baler at speed while wrapping. Saves time.

Don't know about cam adjustment, sorry.
