Electric Wheel Trailer Pics (before after)

I finally managed to find the time to finish painting this old Electric Wheel trailer and thought I would share the before and after pictures. I purchased it on E-Bay earlier this year but due to life experiences (loss of my Mom in April) I have just now finally finished painting it. As you can see in the before picture it was actually in pretty good condition, but being a Ford man I just had to cover up that darn green. Now if I can just find the time to get the tractor painted to match, I'll be happy! I will probably only use this trailer for a few parades each year, and possibly for some future advertising.

Sorry about your Mom, I lost my mother and mother-in-law within 4 months of each other late last year. That is the first Electric wagon I have seen with the pipe framing do you know how old it is? I have three that we used on the farm that were manufactured between 1958 and 1960 and all have square or rectangular tubing or channel where your's has pipe. Your's looks good in the picture. Did you sandblast the rims and repaint them or did you replace them with newer wheels? We purchased one of ours new about the same time an older farmer on each side of us purchased one, when they retired we purchased their's about 25 or 30 years ago. We had to replace the rims on one and used a set of Jeep CJ rims. They could be purchased for a song then. but are harder to find in good condition now. I hope you have many more years of enjoyment with your wagon. I built matching sideboards for two of mine to look like the childrens wagons with the removable sideboards. We pulled them one behind the other in our local Christmas parade filled with children from our church. There was a year or two that we were the only tractor in the parade.

Thanks ya'll for your thoughts on my Mom. She's in a better place now, and for that I'm thankful. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's over 7 years earlier and actually did pretty well up until the last 6 months or so. After finally realizing we were not going to be able to care for her properly any longer we had her admitted into a nursing home which was probably one of the hardest decisions I have ever made in my life. Thankfully she only lasted 5 weeks and 3 days there.
As for the trailer, I really don't know the age of it. The folks I bought it from had recently purchased a farm and this trailer along with a lot of other stuff such as tractors were included with the sale. It had obviously been kept in a barn a good part of it's life, but it had also obviously been used many times. The floor is all tongue and groove, and the sides are all rough cut lumber. It measures 14' long and has had some pieces of wood and tin added here and there inside to keep it tight so it was obviously used as a grain trailer. The upper side boards were added later I'm sure and I also have them for the front and rear. All the wood is 14' long, so I just can't imagine what the lumber would cost to build a new one these days. The framework is indeed tubular as you can see. The front and rear crossmembers where the axles mount measure about 4 inches OD. The extension slide in the middle measures almost 3 inches OD as does the tongue. Obviously over built by today's standards. The frame was originally red in color, and had black pinstripes on the front and rear crossmembers. The front was hard to see any longer from wear while pulling the trailer through the tall stuff but it was still very evident on the rear. It has a metal plate riveted on the rear frame that says: "Electric Wheel Co. Quincy Illinois

Hmmm, that might be a challenge now!
As for the wheels, they are originals. As you probably know, they have a very large center hole. These were in pretty good shape, most of what you see in the before picture is surface rust. I spent hours and hours with a wire brush on my mini angle grinder as well as various smaller wire brushes on the drill motor cleaning them up though.
If anyone has an idea of the approximate year model by the model and serial number I would like to know.

First off, you have my sympathies on the loss of your Mom.

Secondly, that wagon looks great, you really did a nice job painting it.

I am looking around for some running gear or a wagon or to, if anyone has any around KC, MO, let me know.
