banana bales

just got a small 3 acre piece done for hay, very light crop in places got loads of banana bales on the side closest to the knives-its a NH 276 baler, have read about moving tines on tine bar but not sure what folks class right or left of the bale to work out which way to move the 2 feeder tines. As you look from the back of the baler the heavier side is on the right i.e closest to knives. i would like to know the answer even though it might be the light crop-if thats the case is it that side i described that usually has more volume and thickest?

You might just need to make a bigger windrow of hay, my MF 9 will make banana bales if the rows are real thin or the pickup is feeding to one side. Try to keep windrow right ih the middle of the pickup so it pull the material in evenly.

I had the same problem with my NH 268. The problem is more prevelent in light hay but your feeder arm needs to be adjusted. The feeder tines aren't pushing enough hay into the left side of the bale chamber. It's real easy to do but difficult to explain without a manual to refer to. Took me about 10 minutes to adjust mine and now I have perfect bales.

Mike,

A manual will be very helpful. CNH will sell them directly to you. Their number is 800-635-4913. Have your Visa card ready.

My 270 did the same thing and it also was difficult to make tight bales in dry hay. I added 2 hay wedges inside the bale chamber (for a total of 4) and adjusted the feeder forks to the left (looking from the rear). It makes nice tight, square bales now. It is a great little baler and I prefer to use it over our 336 Deere.

Get a MANUAL!!!!! It describes the orientation of left and right, tells how to adjust the feeder carriage, and has a Troubleshooting section to help you.

Looking from back--move finger to the left. OK! now that I have said that--it depends on the second set too and maybe they are all ready far enough or too far. Try a bit of every thing. Light crop is a problem. Try feeding the windrow in close to the plunger side of the pickup. We in the dryland county even tried putting in and extra set of fingers. Having sharp knives that are set close helps, especially in grass. Not cutting clean make the hay hang on the right side. Alfalfa is easy. There is a lot more to baleing than going round and round.
