Hi Darrell,we've had a 124 for 27 years now and there's nothing wrong with them at all.As far as easy to work on,the little bit of trouble we ever had with ours,it wasn't that hard to work on at all, everything is pretty much open once you remove the hood over where you are working as there are two on these models. If it's in good condition and the price is right,BUY IT! and sleep well when you get home, phill.

If it is like the 224 which I have heard it is, check the area around the shear bolt. If they have sheared a lot of bolts the keyway gets sloppy and you have to get it squared up again. Also if the bushings are allowed to wear out on the flywheel the overrunning clutch pawls will tear the lands off the clutch disc and only catch every other one or not at all. The pick up bushings wear out but are easy to change.

Check the knotter for proper operation, we have a broken bill hook to show what happens when people don't stop when one side stops tying and bunches up gobs of twine.

Parts in Canada are really expensive but I hear it is much cheaper in the US. All the parts in Canada come through a stranglehold distrubuter in Quebec who doubles the pricing. A new clutch disc is 700$, each pawl in the rachet it 70$ and the little springs are 10$ each.
