The curtain on my old disc mower has a couple rips. I'd like to repair it with a patch. Does anyone know of a company that sells repair kits?
If so, how well do they work? I'd sure like to get another year or two out of this curtain with a couple repairs.

Someone also mentioned hanging a piece of conveyor belt along the front of the mower to add protection. What are your experieces with doing this? Thanks

A few weeks ago I recommended hanging a curtain made of conveyor belting- 1/8 inch thick used on bunk feeders. Check with dairy supply stores for that stuff. Patch kits? just use some thin metal and small diameter bolts to handle the rips.

I used a piece of 1/2" belting to put a curtain on my old mower. Something much lighter like a single ply belt less that 1/4" thick would be better, but that's what I had. The problem with the heavy belt is that is pushes the hay over, and then the mower doesn't cut properly because the hay is pushed over. I had to cut the belting back so that it's probably a foot or so off the ground. This is on a mounted NH 465, so cutting the curtain high doesn't matter too much. It's still low enough that the trajectory of any flying objects is too low to hit anything of importance. This could be a very different game if you're dealing with a pull type mower. With the mower out behind you, the curtain must be a lot lower to knock down the debris, as a much lower angle will still hit you.
If you can get a curtain for 40% of the OEM's price, that might be the sensible way to go, at least with a trailed mower. The belting is working fine for me on the mounted mower. HTH.
