We recently purchased a David Bradley hay rake. we are interested in painting it. There is little if any reminents of paint left on the implement. We would like to know what the original color scheme was? We have found some red several places, and green on hoops. We don't know if we have original rims, they apear to be green also. Any information welcome. Thank you.

Red and green were the colors. We had one that we used for years. Don't know if my brother still has it or cut it up for scrap. Dad's rule was that we stop every hour and grease all of the bronze bushings on the shafts with graphite grease. We must have used that rake for 30 years and only replaced a couple of bushings.

I have a 1947 model with most of the paint still on it.The hoops and wheels are a pea green and the rest is a meduim shade of red(close to Massey Harris red).Dad bought one new and that was the way it was painted when new.Probably as good a rake as was built back then.Mine still does a very good job.

Thats the colors they was, green wheels main frame was probably red and the reel was probably green. Just go by the colors you found.
