I have a 290 wire tie. Thinking of changing it to string, any ideas. Does any body have to parts?

This is the last of the 290 series and has things that are on 500 series in fact I have been told that 500 series kotter will work. Need a burned, or wrecked baler. Darryl CA

Darryl, I would first get a Parts Manual. Compare all the involved parts to see how many you would need to replace. Tom

I would think your best option would be to find a doner baler. I don't know how much difference there is between knotters and needles from the 290 and other NH balers of the period such as the 283, 285, 286 etc. You might do some exploring through salvage yards or parts books. You may also be able to use parts from a later series baler(can't remember the one that replaced the 290) and in California you probably have some of the bigger balers as we do in the Northwest. I tend to think of the 290 as a newer baler until I think bak that it was about 30 years ago when I worked on them.
