We have a Woods cadet 72 rear mount rotary cutter. the gear box is leaking badly. can anyone fill me in on how to change the seal in the gearbox?? any info would be helpful. thanks in advance!

One of the nost common mistakes made with gear boxes is mist people overfill them .If you put too much oil in them will blow out seals a friend of mine checked oil in my kingkutter brush hog 5' hayside and filled up with oil when oil got hot blew seals "make sure only fill to fill hole" . is not that much expense but down time and labor cost .

I have a woods 60 inch bushhog . just down loaded an exploaded diagram and assemble instructions from the woods equipment co web site. might try that for starters.

Find an good welding -blacksmith shop ,usually you need heat and a big puller to get the blade hub off and they can do a better job with out destroying everything else .

I have the same model, and it's been through hell!! Mine started leaking a couple years ago so i decided to fix it. I tried but couldn't get it apart, as the stump jumper ect.. is rusted on so bad... I said the heck with it, and just put a tube of cheap grease in it every once in a while...

It's been going like that for a couple years now, and looks like it's going to stay that way... It gets lots of rough use too...

Should be pretty staight forward.

Make sure there are no bearings going bad,that wobble,that caused the seal to go out in the first place.

Then just pull the pulley or pto shaft off and you should be able to slide the new seal over the shaft after pulling the old seal out.

Clean the shaft before sliding the new seal on.

As I said before check your bearings.

thanks guys but mine is the seal ,if i am right, on the bottom side that lets the oil leak down underneath on the blades or into the big circle that the blades are hooked to. looks like that circle will have to come off.where can a guy get some kind of illustration to show what to do? thanks for your help. any would be appreciated.

Should be able to see some kind of bolt or set screw attaching the pan to the shaft.

If you have a loader turn it over or stand it on edge and take a good look.
