I have a 50hp ( 43PTO) compact 4wd tractor - weighs a bit over 5000 pounds - I was looking at a 488 today with good rollers and in pretty good condition. I have rolling terrain. Will I be ok or should I stick to finding a good 472??
Thanks

I have a 53 hp (42 pto) hp compact that weighs 6500 lbs and I drag a NH489 around in fairly rolling terrain. It is shy on power on the up hill, great on the flat and downhill.

On a flat field I run 6.5 mph with the AC on and it is fine. On the hills my engine temps climb and she struggles so I have to drop to about 4 mph.

The other tractor we mow with is a Case / IH 585 52 pto hp and it does about the same on the hills.

I think you should be OK. Just watch out on the turns when you're on a hill. Use common sense and you won't have a problem.

I've used my 488 behind a Massey Ferguson 165 (about 45 hp or so)on rolling land with no problem. I don't know what the significance of the "compact" might be, but I'm sure lots of guys on here do! (By the way, the 488 has been a good, reliable machine for me.)

Likely very little difference in weight of the 488 vs the narrow one. Power is not an issue. Hang a set of wheel weights on her and cut a wide swathe.

Don't know that model but I can say I use a NH460 and pull it with an Oliver 77 and it does real good so I would think you would be ok. The 460 is a 9 foot cut by the way
