Just wondering if you found anything out on the problem you were having with your Vermeer 605 G baler.

No. I have not solved anything yet. The operators manual does say that the 2 outer belts are supposed to be 2" longer than the middle ones. The baler has nearly new belts on it. They were put on by the previous owner 2 years ago. The right outer belt (standing at the rear of the baler) is tracking over to the left enough to cut into the belt guide. The left outer belt tracks fairly good. That makes me think the belt lengths are ok, unless the right one has been shortened since the new belts were installed. The belts all do track some what to the left. They get progessively worse from left to right. The right outer belt is the only one cutting into the belt guide though. This kind of progressive "runout" is what makes me think a roller needs to be "tilted" to make it track correctly. I did read back through the archives on this site. There is mention of the second from bottom roller on the tailgate assembly being adjustable. The poster was talking about a later baler, an I model, as I recall. I haven"t checked my 504G yet to see if it has that feature or not. I have a couple parts I am picking up tomorrow for it. As soon as I get those, I"m going to get the baler back out and check on the tailgate roller adjustment thing. I would certainly appreciate any suggestions you might have. I"m afraid I am going to ruin the belt if I don"t get this fixed!

Hey Doug,
It does sound like an alignment issue. It does not take long to wear out a belt if it is eating up one of the guides. Not sure about the G model, I ran F and now a K model ( had friends that had H and G models), but on the F I could take the guides and turn them 90 degress and get to the part of the guide that was not worn in on, the side the belt ran. Also instead of buying new guides if they are needed, I went ( at advise of my vermeer dealer) to pipe dealer got same size pipe then cut the guides, then painted them. Saved allot of money, like I said I run an F so not sure if the G is same, I know my K is not.
Only thing I can think of beside what I thought of earlier is make sure there a bearing going out on one of the rollers, I pretty sure you would have seen that when bailing though, as all the bearing I ever had go out let me know real fast they were out, and not very friendly either as they caught a bale of hay on fire one time.
One trick I started using this year is I bought a infrared Themometers ( about 40 to 50 dollars) and check the bearing that way instead of having to feel with my hands. Sure nice just to aim at a bearing and you get the temperature back especially on the one up high or hard to get too

JM, I'm going to check into the infrared thermometer thing. We used to use them at work. I didn't realize they could be bought for that kind of price. One other thought I had today is that maybe the tailgate frame could be sprung. If it is, it's not obvious. I'll let you know what develops. I'll have to figure this out fairly soon. 3rd cutting time isn't long off! Thanks for the tips.

Doug,

I had a 504F with MF paint ont it. Had trouble like that and never really solved it until I traded the baler. Anyway, there are big turnbuckles on the very top of the baler and according to the dealer these can be turned to square up the baler frame so the belts will track true. If you can find a good Vermeer mechanic you could ask him about it. You might could take some measurements to see if the frame is square.
