Hesston square baler capacity?

Anyone having capacity issues with pick-up and stuffer forks being limiting on the Hesston in-line balers? Packer forks keep going out of time and breaking a lot of pick-up assembly shear bolts. Sometimes just shoving a lot of hay through it and then some times breaks a shear when hardly any thing is in there and the pre-packer chamber is not even packed, does not make any sense. I had a Case-IH version of this baler and the only thing I did with that was to shim up the tounge a bit so that the pick-up had more throat to it.

I'll tell you up front that I have never ran a small hesston baler. I do have a 4800 Hesston, which I think is a similar design, just 40X bigger. If you have checked the timing on the stuffer/knotter sprokets and their drive and they keep going out of time then I would replace the chain. Other wise I don't know how they could keep going out of time unless the stuffer drive sproket was somehow worn on the shaft and moving. One other thing too check would be the stuffer clutch. I suppose that the clutch could grab and the stuffer would cycle out of time. If the stuffer was advanced in timing the packer would be shoving hay against the bottom of the plunger.

This is our first year with a 4590 and after about 5,800 bales we've had zero problems. We went from a New Holland baler to the Hesston and the Hesston will feed stuff through that the New Holland wouldn't dream of. I don't know what to look for on your baler but something has to be out of adjustment or timing to be shearing bolts.

I have a 4590 also and have managed to get about 7000 bales through it so far, maybe I am expecting too much of the machine but I swear the smaller version I had of this baler out did this machine.

When we were baling wheat straw there were times when our 4590 would tie a bale every six strokes and 10-12 strokes was pretty normal. If you don't think your baler will feed like it should it is possible something isn't right. The fact that your breaking alot of shear bolts is what's making me think something is out of whack.

The mechanic came down and actullay it is not out of time but the pick-up was hanging up as it turned, something was rubbing but the only thing we did was loosen up the left side auger and feed drive chain and the binding in the pick-up went away, I can't beleive that could be all it was but with the chain real tight the ideler sprocket on the left side was also crooked. I am balign again with it today. I was tying a bale up to every 3 or 4 seconds last week but then if the windrow was not just perfect is when it was breaking bolts. I let ya know how it does latter on.
