Ok, I know its 50 yrs old. I've baled several thousad bales with it over the past three years with only minor probs. Over the weekend, I was baling and everything was going fine and suddenly heard a metallic crack. The ends of both needles were snapped off and the yoke they are fastened too was bent and torn out of shape.

My local New Holland dealer can get replacement needles but can't find information on the yoke. The baler is in otherwise good shape. Anyone have a suggestion for finding a yoke? Anyone know if it is the same on a 68? (dozens of them around here for parts)

I took a look at the New Holland parts book and it looks like the 78 was the only baler to use that yoke. Definately the 68 and 69's will NOT work. You might be able to make 280,281,282,or 283 yokes work, but the part number is different. Also, you will want to fix the safety latch problem you have so this does not happen again. Steve

ok, did a little checking today, chatted up the baler guy, learned a little something the 78 is the bigger chamber baler, makes a slightly bigger bale, so a needle yoke has to come from a baler with the bigger chamber so it is wide enough, a 68 or 69 is out, needs to be a 78 or 178, and if yu can get the one from NY, sounds like a deal, lots of parts that way, other wise maybe look for something else entirely that is a little more common? good luck

I have NH 78 not used last 3 or 4 years. Sheet metal is rough but otherwise all there and usable. I'm in western NY and will sell for 150.00. No longer needed.

Hey, sorry, I just went back and saw that you said there were dozens of 68"s around for parts. I think the 68 and the 69 used the same yoke.

Find out if the yoke is the same as used on a NH69. If so, I have one, but no needles.

the dealer should be able to use his PAL system to find if it is the same, or get him to ask his baler repair guy, he might know, if I remember I will check with the baler guy at work and see if he knows, once you get those parts in and before you go any further, ya better find out what went wrong, likely out of time, or something broke the knotter shear pin, and your plunger stop is likey not working either, maybe seized or a broken spring, get them fixed or you will be looking at this again maybe
