My jd baler has been stored inside for several years and after about 3 bales the needles went up into the baler and I sheered a fly-wheel pin and another. A block prevented the needles from breaking. How do I get the needles to drop back down? Help! I don't have a manual.

I have a 24 that gave me the same issue. Manually pull the needles home(pull your guts out , man!) then grease everything VERY well. Check the amount of torque on the bolts to the knotter disk brake mechanism. My book tells it should be tighted till it tales 60 lbs of pull to move the wheel. Also check the lenght of the needle actuation arm that raises the needles. Make sure it is not binding on anything. I hope I helped. It took me a month to get my 24 working correctly, but it is a great machine now.

Be happy the lockout mechanism protected your needles. Transported a 268 Hayliner over rough roads a while back, and the neeedle carrage worked loose, and the lockout failed!

Grab ahold of the needle carriage and pull it home. Check your needle brake if it is stuck or worn so it doesn't put some drag on the needles. If its not tight enough when the needles slam home they will bounce and not latch.

Well since the 24T is alot like the 14T I might be able to help but I have never really done much other the rob parts off the 24T I have. What you need to do is pull/push the arm that the needles are mout on back into there home position. Once there you can do the other stuff. By the way you can get a manual for that baler from JD I got one for my friends 14T last year so I know they still have them, they cost around $30
