I know they were making the 224 and 228 from 88 to 90 when I worked at the Massey place, set up and fixed more n a few, just a newer version of the 124, check all yer basic stuff, sprockets and chains, check the rollers in the plunger for flat spots, you can look down from the top and see em, the idler roller for the packer drive chain, bout 2 feet back from the gearbox sproket on the top side of the chain has a needle bearing that goes bad if not greased, pick-up cam and bearings are tuff to see, but wiggle the teeth up and down and check for excess sloppyness, run it and listen, should run smooth, and check the packer arm (lever) for the packer teeth running straight (arm can get bent), fas as the knotter, those "sure tie" knotters are the easiest thing to keep working well, just polish any rust off the billhook so the knot will slide off,

I was working at a MF dealer from 1974-1978, and we were selling the MF124, so it would probably be since then, unless the 224 was just a larger model. The 124 made a standard size bale, 14 x 18 x how ever long you wanted to adjust it too.
