New Holland...bale slice option?

I've been web searching NH round balers, 640 and 650 series, looks like few have the bale slice option. Why? Does it work OK? I think it would suit my sheep farming.

thanks guys, hadn't thought of advantages for TMR, makes sense.
Do other manufacturers offer something similar to 'bale slice' ?

bale slice on these units is a fixed set of knives that move in and out so you can have the option of With or Without slice, and they move during each bale, out to get the center rolling, then in to slice, then out just for the bale finish to give a smooth edge to tie on and hold the bale together for moving with a loader, like Phillip says, works wonders for TMR's, takes a little more power, not a lot, can use as many or few knives as you want, for cow feed the guys around here say it really limits the old cows getting a mouthful and dragging long chunks of hay out of the feeder which they then tramp and waste, makes darn nice straw bedding too, depending what ya bale,Oh, knives are just cutter bar style sickle sections, so fairly cheap to replace

hi Jim,around here the slicer is mainly used for silage making and it comes in real handy when you dump the sliced silage bales into a tub tmr mixer designed for round balage because the bales almost EXPLODE inside the mixer,saves alot of time mixing because it is already sliced and alot of fuel over time too because it can take alot of running time for the mixer to tear up traditional bales,phill.
