Had about 3 acres of pasture I wanted to bale.Had to get the sicklebar out to mow some ditches so I decided to use the IH 1300 rather than the NH 488.Sickle needed to be shined up anyway. Its been 50 years since I last tried to cut any Ladino and am I glad and that was using a Ford 8N.Plug-plug-plug.Luckily it was only about a quarterto a half acre.Sickle is an under serrated one.Dad always said to use a smooth sickle in juicy/gummy hay.Do you think maybe I would have had better luck with smooth sections or would the Ladino have plugged to too? Got it mowed,(1 st gear-w.o.t) but its going to be a bear to rake.A disk mower is out of the question so don't even mention it.

Ok heres a stupid question what is it?? Is it what was called years ago Sweet clover?? If it is thank you because I would know what to buy. I love the stuff if its the sweet clover we usto cut/bale years ago. From what I remember it could would get up to 6 foot plus tall and my horses and goats love it but when I ask for sweet clover seed they say DUH.

old: It is very much different from Sweet Clover. Ladino Clover is very fine stemed, usually doesn't grow more than 2' tall. It will grow very thick, in fact so thick mower fingers have trouble parting the stems. It a very close relative of White Clover.

old: I've heard the term dutch used on what I call white clover, thus it's very likely the same thing.

bubba: It's been a lot of years since I mowed Ladino Clover, and it really wont bother me if it never happens again. I never thought it mowed easy with anything. Well, one exception, I have it in my lawn and the Woods belly mower does a good job. Aside from that, cow's mouth is the only mechanism that works well. Your a brave man, did you utter any 4 letter words, or even think them?

Hugh don't ever remember trying to mow any but I do remember buying seed that was Red, Ladino, and Alsite Mix and it made very good dairy pasture, in Fescue. If you were lucky it would choke the fescue out.

Jimmy: We used that same mix for pasture, as I recall some of it came premixed.
