boom sprayer regulator problems

Got a reg that has 4 ports on the backside. 3 was to the L, the R, and the C booms, and the bottom was plugged off. off to the side, on one side was a pressure regulator, on the other side was the inlet hole. I can get water out of the pressure regulator and it went into a hose that went into the tank, and ended up as a T, im guessing to agtitate the insides. I cant get the reg to completly shut off the water , and I cant get water to the 3 boom hoses. I get water out of the pressure reg, and the bottom port thats shut off, but thats it. Ive tried turning the handle on the reg to get things to happen, but no go. Its got L, LC, C, R, RC, LCR, and ive turned it round and round, the lever, with no difference. What do you all think? Thanks in advance

Thats it exactly bob. The inlet is plumbed on the side port u can see in the pic, with a regulating pressure valve on the opposite side, and guage on top

If the regulator is the only line going back to the tank,you don't want it to completely shut off, because the water needs a place to go. Excess from the regulator is just that. Normally there is a throttling valve or two in the system, depending on if your pump is a roller or centrifugal. At least one throttle valve between the pump and the selector valve, directing flow into the agitator at the bottom of the tank. To reduce foaming, run the regulator overflow into the top of the tank, withjout an agitator tip. Google Teejet or Sprayingsystems company for diagrams. Re; your selector valve- wouldn't hurt to disassemble and clean. Might be plugged with gunk if nothing comes to the boom outlets. With plastic parts, might also be stripped inside, and the handle does nothing under the cover.

Water needs a place to go? What about its going to the 3 hoses to the booms?? Im wondering if what your calling a throtteling valve im calling a pressure regulating valve. It has a all thread shaft that goes inside to 2 springs, one inside the other and then to a blunt plug in front. You screw the allthread up to increase pressure on the guage. It is metal, tho I dont know about the regulating valve. Its the same as in the teejet pic. I couldnt get no tech data to open in it for me. Im wondering what ill run into opening it up, tearing gasket and such like

Water needs a place to go- when you are not directing it to any boom section...it has to get back to the tank..... pressure regulator is doing its job, by dumping everything back to the tank that would otherwise be going to the boom. If all is shut off, and pump is still pumping- it needs to go somewhere. Throttling valve is in addition to a PR valve. It is simply a water valve, partially open to dump extra flow back to the tank. Every field sprayer needs at least one, between the pump and the control valve. Google the sites I mentioned previously, check out the plumbing diagrams, according to what type of pump you have. Regarding opening the regulator and tearing the gasket- if it tears, well, that's the risk you have to take. It is not working now, and you have nothing to lose by fixing what you have. May reseal with gasket compound, or a new gasket.
