Anyone know what size of a used radial tire to put on the bakc of a 256 rake? It has 5.60 x 15 on it now and they are way bad. I don't want to buy new tires for it this year, I won't be using it enough.

Rob

I put another tire on my 256 rake today it was a 205-15 inch. It was a used trailer tire bias not radial but it is the perfect size

You can get by with car type tires, but don't expect it to rake heavy loads like sudan. The car type tires will slip. BTDT. The rake really needs ground power type tires to perform up to spec. Tom

I'd guess that a P215/75R15 would hit about the right diameter. They might be a bit wide, but they'll work. Try to get a snow/mud type of gripper. I would agree that you try to get a set of take-offs cheap, or just off the scrap pile. Buying a new radial will probably cost more than the lugged impliment tire that's supposed to be on there. All we ever used on our old 56 rake was worn out car tires. Work Ok so long as the hay is dry....

Rob, go to your local tire shop and ask them for a pair of good 15" bias takeoffs. The smaller (width) you can get the better so you don't have any interference problems. Mud and snow if possible, but not necessary. Tell them what you want them for and you can usually get them for about $15 each. If your have tubes use tubes as some of the wheels on those old rakes are in bad shape....Good luck
