Hi folks. My caseIH 781 forage harvestor will not move the deflector ,or turn the spout, and the reverse clutch will not engage on the head. I have power everywhere, but nothing happens. Ground points are at the tractor and on the chute, by the deflector control. Have cleaned the contact areas with emery cloth, and still nothing. This is my backup machine, and is needed, because the NH Parts folks didn't deliver in 2-3 days. Computer told them they had parts they didn't have! My loss.

Hi Jim. This is the standard control for IH 86 series. There are three toggles, 1 indicator lite, and a fuse. There is one actuator on the spout and a lttle motor to coil up rope on the deflector. Two magnetic clutches control the forward and reverse actions of the head. Forward works. I will have to find a tester for volt and amperage. What values do you think are satisfactory? I have checked for power with a test lite, wherever I can. Control plug from tractor to harvester is consistent with manual. There is power on both sides of actuator. There is power to both sides of deflector motor. Not sure hoe to check power to magnetic clutches. I feel I have a ground problem, but don't know how to find and correct.

Could be that the motor on thew spout and the clutch are shot from sitting if they've been sitting for very long.

Our Fox 3000 had an electric motor for the deflector when we got it, but it was rusted tight from sitting around. It was a farmer modification in the first place so it was a window motor from a car, and probably not made to be exposed to the elemants like that. I ended up going to the salvage yard and gt another motor from a 91 blazer and wired it up. It's been working for 3 years now with out any problems.

Hi Donovan. Do you think it matters what vehicle you get a motor out of? I mihgt try that option.

I don't think it matters one bit, I just used one from a S-10 because they're common as mud around here.

When i wired it up, I had to use a on/off/on toggle switch with 6 terminals on the back, power and ground supply to the switch and then to either side of the switch. Since the motor only uses 2 wires, I spliced a second wire to it under the dash by the switch, and the positive was on the top on one side and the bottom of the other side of the switch. It really works great, and I'm glad I took a day to rig it up. I can try to get some pictures if you'd like.

i just finished setting up jd 3800 with electric controls in cab. my unit sends 12 volt dc from battery thru circuit breaker and then into control box with rocker switches. make sure that your ciruit breaker is ok. then trace back to each motor. see how much voltage and amperage drop is at each unit. is it acceptable ? i had two actuator motors good but spout deflector was bad. replaced and it is working aok. one mystery
is in cab control box is that there are four rocker switches. the fourth is wired. maybe for releasing quik-release wagon hitch pin. how many
control knobs do you have ?
