Unloading big bales with a Farmall H.

Just a update for you guys.
I did get a bale spear on the loader for my H. Only one I could find was some off size thing and still had to give $200 for it. ( need to buy them in the winter)

After alot of welding, Cutting and drilling. I got it to fit.
I was not going to try to unload the 2 top bales as I know the H has not got the guts for that task. I just pushed them off.

I can report that the H does in fact pick up those big bales. Does not pick them up very high as I had no wieght on the tractor but it worked. Wont be stacking with it. Just picking them off the trailer and sitting them on the ground.

I will post a photo tomorow.

Kelly, I know you will, but be careful with that little H and those oversize (for it) bales. We don't want to read about you. There's an old guy way out in Nebrasky that hasn't even quite got weaned off of horses yet that moves those things around with an H and he just scares me to death, but the nearest hill is in Ainsworth so he might be alright. I use an M, but it quits lifting before it gets light in the backend. I like to hang steel rather than fluid, and I got four on each side and two on the drawbar, and heavy flattop fendes. It will put 5x5's three high, but only long enough to pull straight ahead and set them up there. When I was about 16 I tipped an H over wearing an old Farmhand loader and I just don't want to go through that again. Still doing laundry. Good luck, Harley

Darned ol' thing blew a front tire yesterday; knew it was just a matter of time with those "parade ready" 4 plys on it. :>)

Ya ole buddy, I got some, I think, 12 ply airplane tires on my M from Genesco Tire somewhere in Texas. They have rims too, but not for three bolt open center Farmall rims. I cut mine with a torch, spread them apart, and welded a two inch piece in the middle all the way around and thus widened them two inches so they would take the tires. They are so stiff they will almost hold the tractor up without air. They sure won"t let thorns through. And see what I was talking about with the hills out there? You can see forever on a clear day. Harley, Sure good to see someone other than me running them. My new set on my 966 is better than my old set. For I sprung for new HD thick plate center steel rims, no bending now! They are the best tire for loader application. Yes in muddy conditions you will use the brakes more than with regular tires. My first set went 10 yrs. I have about $60 in ea tire and $70 in ea rim. + 2 tubes before haveing them mounted up. OBTW Gensco is in the center of the known universe....Houston, Texas.
The next time ya'll have a problem with your loader tractor tires just grab the phone and say.....Houston, We have a problem! LOL!

Sound Advice Harley...My good friend has tipped his 350 over 3 times trying to work with big bales. The last time he was lucky to only have to spend 3 days in the hospital.

First time he was backing / turning away from a stack with a bale. Second time was carrying a bale out to the pasture, and ran over a gopher mound. Third time he was stopped at a gate with a bale, just stood up to get off and the ol' gal decided to roll. That wide front 350 with a wore out F11 just never made a good combination with 1700# bales.
Thank goodness, he got rid of it earlier this year and replaced it with a nice 4020.
