As it turns out, my mom knew the guy from the Ag program at the tech. She said he was just a very nice man and had a very nice family, she recognized the name instantly. Said he was the oldest guy in the class- my mom's 50 (god that sounds funny) I think the paper said he was what-64? She said she'll have to send a card at the least.

Really hits home when you know the guy....

I know of a young child killed by falling round bales, and another incident of a lady who suffered a crushed pelvis after a bale fell on her. My prayers go out to the family of this latest victim. Drives home the point that you can't be too careful.

Kinda glad we deal mostly with small squares. Doesn't make us exempt from getting hurt by falling bales, it just takes a lot more to do it.

My neighbour's son (15) was killed hauling small squares. He was going down a steep hill and the tractor jumped out of gear. He slammed on the brakes and the entire load of bales flipped forward on top of him.

I'm guessing that was a smaller tractor? My brother jackknifed a load a while back and wrecked the wagon. He was driving then Ollie 1600 which is higher up. I was really little when this happened and I'm not sure what exactly happened, but I do know he was hauling it down path on a steep hill.

Not saying they don't have their dangers either, but I'd rather take my chances against a load of small squares over rounds or big squares.
