Has anyone used a bale basket behind a Nh67 Baler? I'm looking at buying a bale basket but when I saw the attachment you have to put on to the baler to tow the basket, I'm not sure that it will fit. Just wondering if anyone has done it before?
Thanks
Doug

Works fine behind my NH 270 baler. Like it a lot, works well. You need an adaptor to center the hitch behind the chamber.

The adapter is the problem...I measured one and it is two feet long. I don't have that much space on the bale chamber to mount it.

Home-made job, or a factory one? My basket came with a factory type one, bolted right on the 270. Not sure what the dimesnsions were on the hitch, but it slipped into the pipe of the normal hitch, and has a cross-brace - about all there was to it.

Went back and looked at the adapter again and realized it could fit my baler. Just a matter of undong a couple of bolts and the adapter extends of contracts by about 6".

We have been running bale baskets (Pro-Quality and Easy-Trail) for well over 13+ years. Our balers are NH 316 & 570. The 316 has the offset hitch and does require a special hitch that fits into the hitch pipe and bolts to the bale chamber. This is similar to your NH67 set up. The hitch is something that you can build or have built, we got ours direct from Pro-Quality as part of the total package. Bottom line, the bale basket "MUST" be centered to the bale chamber - no give or take!!! You also must adjust the bale guide pan on the bale baskets to around an 1" to 2" maximum below the exit point of the bale chamber. This will allow proper entry of the bales into the guide chute. In "ALL" our years and well over 200K bales through the balers we have never seen, nor experienced any excessive wear, breakage or anything of the like. We run the hydra-form units on each baler and once again, use common sense, some trial and error to get the weight and density correct, log your pressures, keep records and bale. Other pointers, be careful on your turns, you can handle a pretty sharp corner, but sometimes a bale can "pop out" of line and get jamed between the chamber and the bale basket chute side guides, you can spend 20 minutes cleaning up that situation!!! Straw is another challenge too, but for 95% of the time, not an issue at all. Most of the problems come on the corners once again with straw. For the way we run our operation (5) bale baskets work great and currently we would not change. Hope this information helps out...

I don't have one, but looked at buying one from a local farmer , and yes you have to adapt you hitch on your baler to accept the toung of the bale basket ,so it is positioned properly. he also said he had to take all the tension off the bale chamber ,and the bales were still to tight. he quit using it because he didn't want to harm his baler. But there is another farmer around the corner that won't use anything but bale baskets, and I don't see him fixing his baler all the time....I still have a hard time paying 2600.00 + for a wgaon that is only good for one thing, when I can buy a good flat rack hay wagon with 10T gear for 600.00 bucks and use it for many hauling tasks...just my 2c worth ...Shawn

 Yeah, but you don't ..... in reply to shawnspeed3, 06-30-2006 09:21:24
have to pick those bales up and put them in that basket.:-) I can see that as a HUGE advantage. I am also looking and thinking about these bale baskets. I was thinking about baling some wheat straw. Easy to get the straw out of the way for my bean planting that way. Pick them all up onto a trailer in one place and maybe early in the morning (read that not hot yet). No walking all over fields dragging a trailer picking up bales. I think they"re a great idea, just haven"t bit yet. I know a guy that has 3 of those bale baskets. He just unhooks when it"s full and someone takes a truck and hauls the full one off and he hooks up an empty and keeps baling. Then they stack them in the shed all at once.
