Bought this little JD running gear and I am going do put a new platform on it for a hay rack. I was thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 7x14. What do you guys think?

I have a 7x16 and it is too narrow, my 8x16's are far better for stacking a load of small squares...Mike in Exeter Ontario

Just curious; What did you pay for your running gear? I bought one at auction a few weeks ago, bed was so bad no one would bid, got it for 45.00. I had to strap the bed togather to haul it home or would have left rotton wood all over. Running gear and stringers are in good shape. My Best buy for quite a while. Bob

That looks like a John Deere 953 wagon and I have three with a 8x16 bed. Depends on your buse for it. 18 footer might make sense if you have the need.

If you go with an 8 x 18 you will have about 1.5' of standing room on the front of the wagon with a full load.

I have 6 hay wagons on the farm, three are 8 x 20, one 8 x 16, and two 8 x 16. I like the larger wagons as you have more capacity and can have decent sized loads without going really high. Of course you have to have the right running gear and tires to go long.

Na, that extra 1 1/2 ft. is perfect for one more row on the front... We've got 5 useable wagons right now and plan to build a new one pretty soon. 1 is 8x18 and the next one will be too. The rest are all 8x16, and I can easily get 150 bales on them stacked 6 high.

I had 7x14 and 8x16 racks when I was baling small squares. For me I though the 8x16 fit the bales better.
