Well we took the old JD-14T to the deer dealer because we could get it to knot. Well we went out and tried it out tonight and out of 6 bales it missed 7 times, ya not really but it did miss both knots on all 6 blaes so I guess I'll be calling them tomorrow. Just hope I don't have to pull it all the way back up to them. One way trip is 60 miles. And they are the only dealer that has some one that knows how to work on one

Way back a few 100K bales ago when we used to run a 14T, the baler would not make knots. It ended up being the welded rod/arm assembly that moved the tucker fingers when the knotter tripped. The arms were wore and actually moved (bent) out of location. I decided not to try and rebend as the metal may had lost it's memory and would have gone back to the bent state after use. Once replaced, perfect operation and ran for several more years after. Good Luck . . .

Worst case scenario Old...new knotters. Surprisingly they are still available from the Deere dealer, and aren't as expensive as one would have though. I use the 14T behind the Farmall H and it makes a good combination. Since we had new knotters put in last year, it hasn't missed a tie except when I screw up tying the superseding twine bale up and it changes over.

Good luck with it...the 14T ain't a bad old baler.

What bugs us the most is they had it tieing knots at the dealer but when you start putting hay in it misses them. I'm waiting on a call from the dealer, I called them this morning and the guy that works on them issupose to call me back around 4-5pm so maybe we will get the hay up this evening I hope and I hope with it tieing the knots not me jumpping off the tractor every time the knotter trips and hand tieing them.

You don't happen to have the service ticket with you near by do you. I've been all over our 14T and am pretty familiar with them. I might be able to give you some ideas if I know what the dealer has already done.

Gettin' on and off that tractor wearing out your fingers in no way to spend an afternoon.

The things he did was strighten out the tucker finger bar I guess you would call it, The bar that makes the tucker finger go in and push the twine in to the idscs put on new bill hooks, retimed it. And just all in all went over the knotter area. I'm figureing the problem is in the adjustment of the tucker fingers but don't want to mess with it till I get the call back from the dealer. I don't want to void his 90 day warrenty

Its a place up in Tipton Missouri, can't spell there name. They also have a place in Versailles but there place in Versailles doesn't have a man the works on the old 14-Ts. Theres a dealer in town but he only has lawn tractors and one in lebanon but he doesn't have a guy that knows balers so this was the only place I could find.

Hey Rich, is the complete knot over the bale or is it on the needle side of the twine? Just spent two days fixin a 224T that weren't knottin on either side and might be able to help you. FYI there is a rumor going around that TSC has sold a lot of bad twine. Wasn't true in our case but you might want to change your twine. Other than that I would follow the tucker finger linkage back to the spring that holds them in hold position.....likely culprit. Shoot me some details and I will scratch my head on it a little.

What happening is that the plunger side of the knot isn't tieing but the shoot side is. When it first ties the knot looks good but as soon as you pull on it you then have a knot on only one end of the twine. Bad thing is we just pay $600 to have it fixed, I say we but its not my baler but a friend baler I just get the fun of running it and hauling it from my farm to his etc

If that is happening on both sides you have some problem with your tucker finger linkage I would guess. Twine stays in the disk but the bale goes down the shoot with a loose piece of twine with a knot in it trailing across the top? That is the tuckers. They should be pushing the needle twine firmly into the twine disk to be tied with the billhook. You got some kind of problem with those. In home position they should be resting 1/8" to 5/8" from the slot the needles come thru if I remember my measurements correctly. You need to push this baler thru a cycle by hand and watch the tuckers from the tractor side and see if they are working right. Post a new thread if I can help. This one is getting stale.

No Old , say it ain't so ! You aren't going to break down and throw in the towel on a 14T are you?!? You have the manual , you have the knowledge , you might not have the time but what the hey ? Trip it , turn it super slow , watch closely and the problem will jump out at you . Loose gears , mis-adjusted tucker fingers , loose needle brake , loose chains , billhook tension wrong , needles not adjusted to knotters right , it's time consuming but your time might be less expensive than a deere mechanic's . I worked on mine a few weeks ago before the first cutting and just did the real slow turning part ( about 3" at a time ) for about an hour till I understood when and why everything did what it did when it did it . I couldn't believe how simple but precise it is . The manual has the pictures of every conceivable missed knot and what to look for . Don't let me down old man ! Take care ...Randy

Well thats the thing it did/has got the better of me. We hauled it to the JD dealer 2 or 3 weeks ago and then I pulled it back in last week. I cut hay yesterday and then raked it with my 1935 JD-B today around 2pm. Then we fired up the Oliver 77 which is hooked to the 14T and gave it a try just to find out that the $600 we payed to have the knotters fixed may have been $600 down the tubes but I will be calling the dealer tomorrow, it has a 90 day gureete so maybe I hope they will have ideas.

They should at least come to you this time don't you think ? They " fixed " it so why should you have to spend money on gas again ? And it sounds like they should have put a few new parts in for 600 bucks ! Well , Good luck with it !


Rain is in the forecast for this saturday thru monday unless it's taken back out tonight so I didn't cut the hay tonight like I was going to . Going to get a lot this time it looks like . The fertilizer is working and the grass is 18" tall now up to were it's bent down again , If I pull it up straight it's about 29" tall . I'm hoping we don't get any heavy rain to knock it down flat before I get it cut . Take care ...Randy

The knots look good till you pull on them and then theres only the knot on one end instead of a complete knot that holds
