I would like to shorten a New Holland 451 sickle bar from 7' to 5'. It looks pretty straightforward. Has anyone done this before?

Not terribly tough. Want to be careful though when you go to put it all back together, that the register is the same. It probably wont be. You may have to lengthen or shorten your pitman arm so that everything lines up. Be careful and good luck!! Hope this helps.

If he cuts off the outside end, all that is necessary is to cut a little off the width of the end, so it will fit into the outer shoe, and then drill a couple of holes to remount the outer shoe.

That way, register will not be affected.
