Well if you saw my post last week on the $200 850 I have an update. It is now sitting at my place. Went to pick it up Friday and immediately a valve stem blew out when airing up the flat. Saturday I took a tire off my Ford square baler mounted it up and drug it home. I do not have any pics yet, but it is really a good looking old rig. It has a lot of "oil throw off" on the sides from the apron chains, but that just means he kept it oiled well. Missing two of the floor chains - one is with it, and one is missing entirely. I am going to try to find 2 used chains (probably not), and keep the broken one for parts. If I cannot find any used chains I am going to break down and buy one new and a few repair links and spend as little as I can to try to make bales, and if it goes well I may actually put some money into it to make it right. I actually think I can be baling with a $300 - $400 investment. I simply cannot find anything else wrong with it other than maybe tired hydraulic hoses, and one cylinder has a new hose, and cylinder rebuilt recently. I am going to have to replace the tire that sat flat for a while as the tread is separating. That will wait until I see bales lying in the field though.

Ron,

Somebody put up this link a while back. Best prices I've seen yet. Just go to the baler section.

Actually this place has a nice price, but with shipping I actually think I can pick up one from the local dealer as cheap. This place is about $78 or so.

There was a dealer in my part of Missouir that had 2 or 3 of the old 850s for sale for $500 your pick and all of them where field ready. Sure wish I had the $$ to have picked one of them up just for spare parts for the one I use, it would have saved me a few bucks over the last couple months. I wish you luck on yours. There good old balers when they are working good but a pain in the but when they aren't. I still need to rebuild one of the cylinders on my 850, maybe tomorrow I get time to get that done

Called them this morning (Klein), and they do not have an 850 left on the place. I had been looking hard at buying one of the $500 balers, and I guess most of them got picked up for salvage. I know where one is now, but have not talked to them yet. New chains are just under $100. I still would like to find 2 used chains rather than sink a new one into a "maybe deal". However from the looks of this old baler I think it will go to work. It has been shedded all its life until last year when he pulled it out of the way to open up shed space. It was baling till he backed up and popped two chains. He could not find one of them so far (I still bet he finds it somewhere).

Ya I was up at Kliens a couple weeks ago and asked about the 850s he had, had and Gene said he had sold the last one about 3 weeks earlyer, but they didn't go for scrap but are some place in a field working. So where in Missouri are you?? I know you know where I am if you looked at my web site. You might try tompkins in eldon he has an old 850 sitting out back but I don't know it its owned by them or if its some one elses baler. If you don't have there number drop me an e-mail and I'll give it to you

I live just south of you. Bought some parts from you last spring for an 8N. I talked to Tompkins last week. They do not want to sell it to put in the field since he is not aware if it is working or not. He might scrap it, and I plan on talking to him today about that. They had a salvage baler but not much if anything left on that machine.

The guys seems to think theres not much wrong with it but doesn't know for sure and said he will have a price for it tomorrow. Shoot if your taht close to me you need to drive up and see all the new old stuff I have in now. In the last year or so I have hualed in something like 10-12 more tractors and a few pieces of equipment also
