224T knotter problem

Hey guys, really beat from bailing and this one is getting the better of me. JD 224T stopped tying both sides mid field. One side is not cutting the twine and the knot is staying with the billhook. Sounds like a swiper problem but no time to look at it tonight. The other side I cannot figure out at all. There is a nice little loop in the twine but it never connected with the other side so their is no full knot. Can't seem to work it out in my mind how the twine comes together and what is not working to get the complete knot tied. Probably sounds confusing.
Any ideas for the morning would help. I still have one order to fill and I don't think they want loose hay. Very frustrated. Usually I can fix this stuff just by looking thru the manual.

Dave,

if both knotters all the sudden have a problem like that you might consider needle placement to the twine disk. I would clean out the baler and start the adjustments from the beginning. I have had many similar issues and it was almost always something ahead of the knotter if simple adjustments don't work.

I had problems with our 336 this cutting knot staying on billhook, cycled real slow the string was being cut to slow sharped tiwne knife then worked fine. After fighting it 5 hours the blades had only tied 900 bale since new

Dave, I had a problem with one side missing a lot on a 348. After running through a tying cycle by hand, I discovered one tucker finger was not pushing the twine back far enough for the bill hook to grab. It was leaving a single knot in the twine over the bale, and the twine down the end of the bale had no knot. After adjusting the linkage one turn on the tucker finger, it worked like a champ. Don't know about the other problem. Maybe your wiper arm is bent and not travelling far enough to wipe the knot off the bill hook. I always found the troubleshooting section of the operators manual very helpful. Just some of my experiences. Have been baling with JD square balers since 1960. Good Luck!

Dave; I have the same type problem with my 336, 6 hours on it today. I have gone through all the adjustments etc. Last fall I put it up after baling with only one miss. Now I cant find the problem. I have about decided its old age. All the parts are worn, the "valley" with smooth sides, looks like a big U with a flat bottom. More slop than allowed all over. Shoot, it isnt as old as me. If I have to new(er), it may be small rounds. Any ideas of brands/models guys?? Bob
