What is optimum angle for sickle bar?

Subject line pretty well covers the question. Have a Deere 350 3-pt sickle bar mower. Should be easy to adjust angle by adjusting length of top link. I have been running with a little forward tip, but last field, I had bar practically level. Seems to be doing a little better job. What"s your experience? I"m cutting mostly grass hay, some with thick grass growing on the ground, which tends to clog mower even with sharp blades, and fairly good sickle sections.

Hi Ray, how's Linda and the bunnies? Been cutting grass with a sickle for a while now and my preferred is to have the guards pointing slightly up for normal cutting. When I am just about done and the bar will be riding over previously cut hay for a portion of it's length, then I raise the guards so they point well upward (as far as they will go on my mower) and this way they don't comb the cut hay off the ground and make a slug.

Dave, Linda doing better, with her back & shoulder since she stopped physical therapy! Missed last rabbit show due to an emergency grandchildren baby sitting call. While she loved babysitting, was sorry to have missed show! Bunnies doing fine - gearing up for county 4-H fair first week in July. Grandson will be showing several rabbits, 2 goats. Linda is rabbit superintendent, Michael is llama superintendent. I"m the stay at home "gopher". THANKS TO BOTH RESPONDENTS ABOUT SICKLE BAR ANGLE!

I "think" the MF book for the Dynabalance says level but I tend to add a little 'nose-up' trim to pull through some spots. I have some of that 'thick grass' growing close to the ground too and it can be frustrating trying to keep the speed up. If I have 'nose-down' trim then I "dig in" more often and carry more trimmings in the blade.
