brush hog for 1650 Oliver

If the grass is too thick all I do is slow down a gear or 2. I can still cover more ground going slow than I could with an 8 ft or even a 10 ft mower.

I also called prior to purchase and the 15 footer required a minimum 60 hp.

AB- yeah, I'm slowly working on getting the parts as the money comes in and I have time to work on the beast. Couple weeks back I installed the new battery and cables. I was very happy with the results, first time I have been able to start the 1650 w/o the aid of ether, took a couple cycles of using the preheater, but it started. I have an Oliver 1655 with an 8' Bush Hog brand, 3pt mounted cutter. I have had it for 6 years and I like it very much. When I was shopping for cutters, I looked at Bush Hog and Woods. Both are very high quality, but the Bush Hog is more rugged and sometimes I cut some small brush with it. However, the Woods will do a prettier job if you are just clipping pastures or light hay fields. Also, if you are just clipping pasture weeds, the light duty cutters at the farm stores will last a long time.

I bought the 3pt unit for manueverability in fence corners and around trees.

Like the previous post said, the size of the cutter depends on what you are cutting. My 1655 just plays with the 8 footer clipping pastures, but I have also cut some grown up fields for my neighbors that had grass/weeds 3 to 4 feet tall and it gave the 1655 all it could handle.

I also didn't want to get into anything with dual spindles on it for cost reasons.

A neighbor had a great looking heavy duty bush hog for sale , a Rhino. That was a good solid machine with heavy skids but a little too much for my tractor at 8 foot.
