JD 327 - any issues switching to Plastic twine?

I currently use sisal but there is $8 of price difference between sisal and plastic. i would like to switch. Will there be any adjustments I will need to make or just tie it on and go...

I ran the same baler for along time and used at that time 140Knot Bridon poly. worked fine. I now run 170knot Bridon poly,7200 in single balls,would never go back to string has been my experience. Yea you don't want it laying around but string you really don't either.

we have switched back and forth back and forth

about 7yrs ago the 336 stopped tying all together-- dad got a few new parts... not all put a file on some others.. and switched over to plastic full time... stopped missing went back to sisal (on an all natural kick) and busted bales all over the place.. back to plastic fast....:)


on the big round baler (NH852) I like the plastic because it cuts better and slides... BUT the dang stuff hangs around in the pasture for years getting in everything from the manure spreader to the cows feet...

I used to go back and forth on a 336, and now on my Hesston 4550. The only thing you might have to do (sometimes, not every time) is tighten or loosen the twine tension plates at the twine box. I used Bridon 9000 plastic twine last year, and the supplier ran out for 2nd cutting, so I had to get a couple of boxes of 9000 plastic from TSC. The TSC twine was slightly smaller in diameter and slicker, so required a 1/4 turn down on the adjuster nut over the tension plates.

When I switched (on a JD 336) thats all I did. It worked for about 40,000 bales as good as sisal. Last year it started not wanting to wipe the knots off so I switched back. This year I went back to plastic on my second cutting alfalfa and so far so good, knock on wood.

40K bales will be about 10 years for me. I can withstand an issue or two every 10 years...
