What size tires does your New Idea have? Mine has old 10.00 20 truck tires but they rub on the gate mechanism. I"m hearing differing things on what tire size I should have but would like to go back to original.

I'm also redoing a 217 and am looking at the trex decking. I've seen other new manure spreaders with it and it seems like the stuff to use.

I use 1" (actually 3/4") southern yellow pine. Plain, planed lumber, no tongue and groove ( I use 1 x 6"s and rip the last one to fit, I install the boards with no gap). Once installed, I paint it with burned motor oil. The last one I did (about 10 years ago) is sitting in the woods with the floor in tact.

I'd never done one before but last fall I used white oak planed to 1", tongue and grooved, fastened with carriage bolts and soaked in old engine oil. I wanted a floor durable enough to handle occasional loads of firewood and sharp impacts from thrown blocks.

So far I've only used it for manure, and it works fine, with no undue swelling or shrinkage.

I wonder how the plastic decking like Trek would work? I like the looks of that plastic one piece stuff the other guys are talking about. Probably the most practical way to go.

Decking likes to crack under a sharp load, like a rock or ice chunk. Needs more support under it than wood, closer spacing of cross members....

We used the treated plywood and plastic sheeting on our's last winter. We have a local place here that sells the plastic and we use quite a bit of it. For something like a spreader or silage wagon floor the plastic is great and it's pretty easy to work with.
