I bought a NH 479 haybine pretty reasonable. The rubber on the rollers is cracking and chunks are missing. I'm hoping it will run this way for a few years. New rubber for the rollers was quoted at 1,000 per roller. I have a gehl 1090 parts haybine with good rollers. I haven't had a chance to measure the lenght, dia and shaft dimentions. Just wondering if anyone has swapped the rollers with other brands? Are there any cheaper aftermarket rollers? thanks

I just bought a 479 with bad rolls had two interlocking metal rolls installed with new bearings for $950.00 just cut 20 acres worked well .I was told they strip all the old rubber off and weld on 3/4 square stock in its place. It may not be as good as the original but I only have $1800 invested.

There is an Amish repair shop near me that replaces rolls with steel interlocking rolls. Not sure what it costs.

A 479 with bad rolls would have to have been free to be reasonable to me. They won't last a few years either because when they start to go in chunks forget them.
I think the price of a 1000 per roll is a little high as I paid about 700 each for them last year from NH but it takes 500 dollars worth of sweat to get them in.
Since you had a parts machine with good rolls you should have stuck with that model.
I wouldn't ask your question were I you until I'd measured everything but I really doubt it will work..... Good luck however..... ...

You bought it reasonable. Don't complain about repair costs. If you wanted a new rolls why didn't you buy a new machine? I heard about a fellow who put a JD engine in a Duetz, guess anything is possible.
