I have a 1219 but this could apply to many makes and models. The bolts that go up through the guard, I bought a box of "Guard bolts and nuts". They would not seat all the way into the guard. Found some round head carriage bolts, but cannot find the nuts that will seat down into the clip. Finally JD said they would get them, 1.49 apiece. Told them no. Will chuck up regular nuts on a bolt and turn them on a lathe first. What do you guys do?? Bob

Have a 1219 myself. I just use regular hardware carriage bolts with the lock nuts. Never had one come loose on me yet.

I use the ones like Deere has or other farm supplies. Have had no problem pulling them into the sickle back, don't know that it would pull into the section itself. I just put the bolt into the back and pull them into place.

Do you mean you just tighten the nut so much it pulls into the guard? Are you getting the nuts with the "cone" shape to go down into the clip or frog on top? Sure seems like JD could have something that fits and not has to be forced into it. The ones they gave me sturck out about 3/16 inch. 7/16 carriage "round head" bolts fit perfect. Just aggravated I guess. Bob

Sorry Bob, got mixed up there somewhere and thought we were talking about section bolts not guard bolts. I haven't bought any new guard bolts from deere for a while so not sure. Seems like the old ones on my mower were plow bolts with the rounded head nut to pull into the hold down or cutter bar. On other swathers I have just used carriage bolts. Just checked my 1380 and it uses the carriage bolts with a lock nut on top.
