thanks for everyones input, my baler has the big roller on the bottom. the spray on friction stuff sounds like it could work. thanks for the idea.

I have a 855 with the big round roller on the bottom to start the bale, and it has 1" wide by 1/4" flat iron welded onto it every 8" or so the full length of the roller. It helps start your bale, but if the hay is extremly dry it will puke it out once in a great while. Also if you can adjust your twine needles so the first row of twine starts about 8" from the end of the bale, or else the twine will slide off the bale when you eject it. In mixed hay, alfalfa, corn stalks, straw, there is no problem.

I have an 852. It doesnt have the rollers like Allens has. Not sure which type you have. My baler will bale ANYTHING except super short, fine, over dry hay. I loosened up the tension on the chains, and it helped. The solution was to wait till a little dew came out.

Is that the model of baler that has the "slick" lower roller?

My neighbor said he used some sort of a "spray on" material that was made for friction tread on slick steps. Says it cured his ills and he started doing it at the beginning of each season.

Allan, I got along pretty good this morning with the old 845 chainer, but when it got hot and dry this afternoon, all it wanted to do was puke the grass right back out the front end and plug the bejesus out of it. Finally had to quit and wait till o dark thirty in the morning when the dew is on to finish. Anybody out your way have those curved leaf springs for the back of the floor on one of these things? Mine are all but gone. Thanks, Harley
