A friend off mine has found an A.C. model 303 square baler to use on alfalfa hay.I havn't seen the baler yet but he says the baler looks alot like a Massey Ferguson 12 baler.I never seen an A.C. square baler before.Has anyone ever had any experance with these balers? Were they a good reable baler and who made them and about when they were built. Thanks for the help,John.

I have a 303, some knotter problems right now but thats because the baler was badly used before I got it. If you have a former AC dealer near by, now Agco I wouldn't worry to much. Make sure you get a manual though. Parts might be expensive but I just shelled out almost $400 for rear axle bearings from local Case/IH dealer.

Many of the knotter parts are New Holland. I've also used bill hooks from Deere. Manual is available from AGCO, always a good thing to have with unfamiliar equipment. Just used mine on 750 bales of alfalfa. Yield wasn't bad about 2.25TPA. Good luck.

The Allis 303 and the Massey 12 are completely different animals. The Massey uses the knotters that had been on their previous models all the way back to the #3. The Allis has a similar design to that of New Holland and Deere knotters. As for feeding, the Allis and Massey follow the same principles, but are of entirely different mechanical makeup. Also, the Allis 303 is a 16 x 18, and the Massey 12 is only 14 x 18.

The only similarities you might find are the use of SAE nuts and bolts, and 6 and 4 bolt rim patterns.

A-C made these balers themselves from 1963-1970. A-C quit the hay machine business in 1975. Parts are hard to get, and the few still available from AGCO are $$$$.
