I'm tring a test run on my baler before I have a field full of straw, my first baler & I've never used it.(MF 9) Feeding material in it sitting stationary.... first, it was breaking the twine. I sharpened the knifes, then I noticed the twine wasn't coming off the knotter after it tyed. I used emory cloth to clean, was still brown but felt smooth, still the same thing. I then used a piece of very fine sandpaper & the emory cloth & cleaned until it was shiny silver, also filed a bur off the knotter hook. Ran two more, the inside knot came off both times but the outside one did hang until the plunger came back, & then it fell off. Does this sound like I'm on the right track???? The bales are loose too, but I think that will tighten up in the field with a steady flow of material, if it keeps tying. O.K., this "rookie" is open for your thoughts & opinions.

HDL is right, need good windrows!! I baled some thin rows.. bales were loose & some bowed. Raked 2 rows together into one, bales were perfect!! Nice, tight even bales with no bowing. This machine needs a good flow of material to make good bales. It missed 5 or 6 in the beginning & after that tried everyone. I think it just needed some use after sitting for so long to get the knotters nice & clean.

You may need to back tension off about a 1/4 turn on the left side of bill hook to let knot slide off easier.I have also have a #9 and you need to make heavy windrows and the correct ground speed to go along with them to make good tight bales
