I was having trouble with bananna bales on this baler. I found that there was not a hay dog on the bottom, to the outside. This is the side that was baling long. I have modified the baler by installing a hay dog in this position, so that there is now 3 on top and 3 on bottom. I have not tried it yet. Has anyone done anything like this?

ps. I have a NH69, for parts, cheap, if anyone is interested. Some of the sheet metal was fabricated in a Sheetmetal shop, out of galvinized metal, a few years ago. Anything that can be used on the NH269, I am keeping.

Had the same problem with my old MF#3 baler, installed hay dogs from an old IH to sides of bale chamber. Made a vast improvement. Also good consistant windrows make good bales.

My NH S67 and 68 baler have 2 hay dogs in the top and 1 in the bottom. I had bananna bale problems with the 68, so I added 2 pairs of wedges (they bolt to the sides just below the knotters) and solved most of the problem. I also figured out that bale chamber tension figures alot in shape.

I suggest you set the length of the bale to no more than 3 to 3 1/2 foot. Then adjust your bale chamber spring tension to get the weight you want. I initally set my two springs at the same height. I will then adjust down (more pressure) the spring that corresponds with the long side of the bale until I get things squared up.

Large windrows seem to have help my baler as well. I also added an extra set of feeder fingers on my tine bar.
