The comment below about riding a baler being a dirty job reminds me. Riding a sled behind a baler. You ride back there and stack 8 to twelve bales up, then jab a bar into the ground to slide them off in a stack. Neibour baling for me kept looking back...when we stoped for a drink of water he asked "did it come out" "What come out" I ask. "the rattlesnake" he says. Honest to god-true

I hardly ever bale that I don't find at least one snake in the bales. Usually if I am in the barn loft I will smell them. There doesn't seem to be anything that smells worse than a snake.

Most times in small square bales they are dead. The plunger knife seems to do a great job of chopping them up into small pieces.
