Don't know if I'm in the right place, but what the heck. I have an old Chicago electric 3500 watt genny whose 5hp briggs is starting to get real tired. Has anyone ever converted one of these to a PTO unit? I'm not sure what RPM the engine turns, but I'm sure something culd be "McGyvered" up on that account. What I'm concerned with is I think the engine crank may serve as the inner bearing for the armature.
Any ideas?

You can purchase a brand new factory fresh engine cheap with warrenty from www.smallenginewarehouse.com . This will certainly be cheaper,safer, easier, more portable, burn less fuel and not look like something some farmer has cobbled together.

Regardless, those direct-drive generators are not designed for the side load of a belt pulley.

B&S should run 3600 RPM.You would have to gear up your 540 PTO speed by 6.67 to 1.Probably would be easier to replace the B&S engine.
