I have a NH 477 haybine and the drive pins for the rollers started to not fully engage the notched drive sprocket to keep rollers turning.I have owners manual but nothing at all in the manual for this feature. When you disengage pto the knife bar stops almost instantly and this slip sprocket lets rollers to continue to spin and stop slowly.Do you have take off gear box to get into this to replace the drive pins and springs.I'm the 2nd owner of this machine and all in all its in good condition first time in 5 years any problems.Serial #360301 and shipping tag in manual dated 4/25/77

HDL,

I've heard Steve tell others the same fix. What he's saying is where the two peices over lap each other is where you want to weld them. The over riding clutch is made up of two halves and one half over laps the other half. Just clean any grease/oil away from the surfaces and put about four, 2" welds around the unit. Hope this is clear enough.

Matthew

Let me make the fix real simple for you. Unless you are using an antique tractor that does not have live pto, take the over-running clutch assembly and weld it together. Midway through the 477 production, New Holland discontinued the over-running clutch and never used it since. A ten minute weld job and you are back in business. Steve

Steve could you explain just a little on where to weld together and do you need to take anything apart. Also by the serial#360301 approx. what year would this 477 be. I'm running it with MF65 gas live pto. Thank You!

I have a 469 that the over running pins broke.
Steve recomended the same fix to me.

You dont need to weld the whole thing all the way around. Put 4 2 inch welds at the 1/4's. Took me about 15 min to do it.

Works great. The only difference it made in my procedures is you need to slow your RPMs down before you disengage the pto. Also cant just turn the reel by hand to grease all those zerks. Have to ingage the pto to turn the reel.

When welding it. Safe area,Wire brush the weld area to get some metal to show and have a bucket of water handy. Lots of oil and greese there to start on fire.
