Wire hanging up in twisters on JD 214 WS baler Ple

Wire hangs up on one of the twister hooks of my 214 WS every now and then. It twists it just fine but it doesn't always let the twist go with the bale. This causes one side of the bale to not have wire on it and the new bale to have the excess wire twisted with it. What could I do to solve this problem? Would it help to put a little grease in that area so it'll let go easier? I don't see any grooves worn in the hook, and the other side (the right side) works fine. Thanks.

I've had two wire tire balers do this same problem (J.D. 224 and a Ford 542). I still have the 224, a great baler, slow, but great. Try changing the brands of wire, cheapest and easiest and has worked for me. Or, on the twisters where the wires come together to twist at the end of the twister, closest to the screw that holds the twister on the shaft. I usually use a dremal tool or die grinder with a very small end and grind out the opening a small amount. You will have to take the twisters off to do this. I've even had to do this once with a brand new twister. DONT use a tourch or any other heating tool. These twisters are made out of a hardened metal material and this will only destroy the twister. I always check to see if I grinded enough out by taking two peices of wire, put them parrallal beside each other and twist them together inside the groove and make sure they move freely. Just my two cents.

K-Stater,ideally the point off the twister hook at home position should be directly under the bolt that holds the gripper/knife in place. To aid wire from hanging in twister hook you can retard hook one or two teeth on drive gear. You can do this only on side giving problem if you so choose. I thot DavisWalker made the best baler wire, but they sold out. No longer can find their wire. I always open the top of the wire box and pour 2 qts of trans fluid on the wire and let it soak. You might try pouring it on the inside loop of the box. The wire must have a thin coat of oil or wax on it to slid thru the tie beaks. Never, never use rusty wire. You are just asking for problems.

Could be a burr grabbing the wire or uneven wear on the twister causing the twister to grab the wire.Run a folded piece of fine emerycloth through it and feel for any grabbing of the cloth. Wire is not rusty is it?
