Set a new personal best today, started rolling at 3 p.m. and at 6:45 when I finished had 96 on the meter. Not bad for a 25 acre pasture field I thought about running the batwing over.

At 9:00 tonight all 96 plus 48 from the other day were stacked in the barn.

*smiles and shrugs. It was a good day. Of course what I didnt tell was I still have 40 acres of first cutting standing, and beans still in the bag.

You were movin'. Not bad considering it wasn't a top notch crop? It's hard to get production in a poor field.
The biggest day (in sheer number of bales) I ever had was about 360 bales in about 8 hours. The first hour of that day, I topped out at 58, in 60 minutes timed. The best average I ever held was 51 over about 5 hours. This is with a 1988 Claas 44S, with a 70HP NewHolland TS90, 12x12 in front. The baler makes a 700-800# 4x 4-1/4 bale. I run the baler a bit overfull to harden them off a bit more. Hydraulics aren't what they used to be on that machine. The bales are supposed to be 4x4. This was with a single twine wand, running full bore..... Don't have net wrap.

Congratulations on a great day!

Do you use twine or net wrap? I have a NH 640 baler that I like very much except when it changes balls of twine. The twine in the center of the new ball is hard to pull and will break and this means that I have to rethread the twine feeder. I have tried several different brands of twine, but with pretty the same results with all of them. I asked the New Holland dealer and he said it was a common problem. I was anxious to hear what your experience with this was.
Thanks,

Twine all the way. I used to use Southern States Premium 16,000 treated. Counldnt get it to cut the twine for squat. I changed to the cheapest 16,000 treated I can find and rarely have twine troubles. Today was my first time in two years, twine was looped in the spool, grrrr. And naturally it was when rain was threatening.

Didnt do as good today, 56 in a tad over an hour and a half, but that was all that was cut.

My best was the year we got our new 660 New Holland and I was baling CRP hay. Did 393 bales on the 4th of July that year. Never had a day that good before and haven't had one like it since!!!

I am sure other people have much better, but the best day I ever had with my 605F Vemeer was 165. I started at my Uncle's place, mile from my house at 10:00AM 30 acres of Orchard Grass just over 100 there, then roaded 10 miles to another Uncle's and did the rest, then roaded back home. 30 minutes each way. I baled about 85 the next day and my left knee hurt so bad I could hardly walk.

Jeff Aiken of Jonesborough,TN in 1992 baled 277- 6x5 bales in 15 hours with a Vermeer 605J baler. He did this for 5 different farmers so the road time cut into his bale per hour but that still is putting some hay in the bale. One of the farmers weighed 5 of the bales at the feed mill and all 5 weighed more than 2000 LBS.
In 1976 Larry Carver of Jonesborough,TN took a closed throat Vermeer 605C with manual twine tie & a 2030 JD tractor and baled 198 bales in one day. To me that was amaizing because he was custom baling for 3 different people and with a closed throat baler.

I have a friend that trades for a new Vemeer every 3 years pulls them with way over a 100 hp White he bales at 10 MPH!! My son raked for him one time and said Dad I had trouble staying ahead of him. I don't know what his bigest day has been but it is nothing for him to bale 120 acres a day.

When I had the old 605A closed throat I always seemed to spend a couple of hrs under it with a sharp knife. I did bale 25 in an hr a couple of times with it.

What brand and size baler do you have and would you change if you had to buy another?

New Holland 650 (4x6), but fully adjustable from 4x4 up. I run it at 4x4 for round bale silage. My dad bought one new in 1991/92. We had used chain balers up until then, did a lot of custom work in the 80's. Enough to wear out 3 sets of floor plates on one of them.

I had an old NH 851 chain baler at the time he got his. As soon as I had enough money saved up, I got a 650 too. Would I change, not a chance. If I was buying a new one I'd get the current version of it.
